Next-Generation Silicon Anode Batteries to Power Solar Cars for Several Collegiate STEM Programs Competing in World’s Toughest Solar Car Race
FREMONT, Calif. – July 25, 2023 – Amprius Technologies, Inc. (“Amprius” or the “Company”) (NYSE: AMPX), a leader in next-generation lithium-ion batteries with its Silicon Anode Platform, is supplying battery cells to the just-announced “Astrum” solar car for the University of Michigan Solar Car Team. The 2023 solar car was unveiled at a ceremony on July 14th ahead of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in October. Amprius CEO Dr. Kang Sun was in attendance and gave congratulatory remarks noting the monumental event for the university.
“It was an honor to attend the revealing of the ‘Astrum’ solar car in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a company that was founded out of Stanford University, we are passionate about supporting collegiate STEM programs. The Astrum car will be pushed to its limits during this 3,000-kilometer race. Our next-generation batteries were selected after a rigorous technical evaluation and will provide exceptional endurance and range to a vehicle that will be pushed to its limits in extreme conditions,” said Dr. Kang Sun, Chief Executive Officer of Amprius.
The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is the world’s toughest and most prestigious solar car race, requiring teams to design, develop, and pilot a solar-powered vehicle along a 3,000-kilometer transcontinental Australian route from the northern city of Darwin to the southern city of Adelaide.
Amprius is proudly partnering with several additional collegiate solar car teams competing in this year’s race, including:
- Brunel Solar Team has built their newest car, Nuna 12, with a team consisting of students from Delft University of Technology in Delft, Netherlands.
- Innoptus Solar Team has built their newest car, Infinite, with a team consisting of students from KU Leuven in Leuven, Belgium.
- Solar Team Twente has built their newest car, RED X, with a team of students from the University of Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences in Enschede, Netherlands.
