FREMONT, Calif. – October 31, 2024 – Amprius Technologies, Inc. today announced one of its contract manufacturing partners has opened new lines to support increased SiCore™ production. The newly installed production lines provide Amprius with manufacturing capacity of up to 800 MWh for its SiCore pouch cells.

Amprius, the lithium-ion battery maker, has won a $1.9 million contract from the US Army for its 500Wh/kg SiMaxx™ silicon anode cell.

US Military Edging Closer To Electric Vehicles, One Step At A Time

The US Department of Defense has been achingly slow to add electric vehicles to its massive fleet. However, signs of activity have been stirring among automotive and battery stakeholders with an interest in defense contracts. The latest example is the US silicon battery firm Amprius Technologies, which has nailed down a slot in the xTechPrime Competition hosted by the US Army.

This ultra-high density battery will power next-gen soldiers

Amprius is working on ensuring that its wearable battery fits into military operations. The battery will be part of a new Amprius battery vest, which will use batteries with silicone anodes to give soldiers twice the energy storage as the current generation.
